Want to upgrade the RAM in my system

Do You Know why this does not work with an MacBook Pro Mid 2010 17" Core i7? But with an Older iMac 24" from 2009? ☺️

Sorry I'm confused here on your question.

The older 24" iMac Early 2009 was only able to support 8 GB of RAM.

The MacBook Pro 17" Mid 2010 likewise could only support 8 GB of RAM as well.

Both of theses systems controller logic was limited with its memory addressing which limits it ability to access memory beyond 8 GB.

Are you thinking of a different system here?

System specs:

- iMac 24" 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo (Early 2009)

- MacBook Pro 17 " 2.53 GHz i5 (Mid-2010)

I asked behause in that Thread you talked about upgrading the 24" iMac 2009 to 16 GB RAM and that it should work..... i have Both an 24" iMac 2009 and an Macbook pro 17" i7 mid 2010. so, in if it works in the 24" it is odd that it wont work in the MacBook Pro. I read that this is due to an Controller in that MacBook Pro. But still odd because it is newer.

I think you mis-read the correct answer here none of the iMacs in this series have any way to support 16 GB. Someone mudded the waters talking about a different model which was what I was talking about. The green accepted answer is correct in that old thread.
