Graphical glitch on left side of screen

I am fixing a friend's macbook. There is a consistent graphical pattern on the left side of the screen, akin to tv static (photo 1). I disassembled the computer and could not find anything wrong.

  • When I connect the computer to an external display, the external display has no graphical errors (photo2)(see this question: New Display, boots fine, after few minutes presents glitch & goes dark)
  • The display data cable does not appear to be damaged (photo3). Although, I will not rule this out
  • There does not appear to be any damage to any socket or other part of the logic board (photo 4). I will not rule this out either

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? The only clue I have is damage on the plastic bezel (photo 5) that goes around the wifi card, indicating the computer was dropped. I have included photos I thought to be relevant. Thank you in advance.

Sadly, the internal display has become damaged. Either the system was banged on the lid or something heavy was placed on the lid causing the delicate electrical pathways on the edge of the LCD to become de-laminated.

Sadly, this is not something you can fix. You'll need to either replace the discreet LCD panel following this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 LCD Replacement which is not easy but the cheapest. Or which is what I prefer MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Display Replacement which is a lot less work and a lot easier! But could be more expensive depending on where you source the part from.

That makes sense. Thanks for your help. Fortunately I have a scrap machine with a compatible screen.
