Why is my iPod not syncing or charging?

My ipod classic (160 GB) has been my go to for music since I got it. It will charge when I hook it into the charging dock on my stereo, but when I go to use a wall charger or even sync it to my new windows hp notebook computer to update my music library, it will not sync or register as charging. Why? And how can I get it fixed?!

Answer this question I have this problem too

I'm assuming you have tried different cables? Different chargers?

This sounds like a classic bad power IC. I'm very familiar with iPhones and iPads, so I'm 100% guessing that the iPod works in basically the same manner as the other iOS devices. If it is the power IC, its not a super complicated repair, but it does require micro soldering skills and equipment. A sure way to tell is to connect an inline power meter to the USB cord and charger. If you plug it in and are pulling 0 amps or very, very low amps, its almost certain its the power IC.

So what do I need to do with it if I don't have access to any of that?
