Will not charge. Bad charging port?

My grandson's 3ds will not charge. It isn't the cord and we're thinking the problem is with the charging port. We have to kind of prop the cord when it's plugged in so the cord will stay in place. How can we fix this?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Juanita,

My suggestion in this order:

1. Try with a new battery

2. Check fuses, if in short it will not charge

3. Check power supply connector. Re-solder or replace if required.

4. Check all connectors for lcds, cameras, wifi card are in place and not broken.

Good luck and good repair....

It sounds as though the charge port pins have been pushed down into the plastic guide. It's pretty easy to lift them back up. All you'll need is a needle to get underneath the pins and pry them up a bit. Take a look at this image for a slightly better visual example: Lifting Charge Port Pin with Needle

If that doesn't help charge the system then the charging port has probably lifted off the PCB and will need to be resoldered back onto it. Try out the above first (needle trick) and get back to us if it helps.
