Trackpad sometimes not tracking

I have a MacBook that I bought used and I was unhappy to find out that the trackpad doesn't work 100%. It often stops tracking when you move our finger across the center of the trackpad. It will often not be able to pick up the scroll gesture properly. Very annoying, I love macs excatly for their quality track pads. Any suggestions for how to fix the issue?

If I have to replace the hardware, I'd like to replace the part myself. I don't see a part listed for 15" trackpad, can you just use the trackpad for the 13"?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Well ... Yes & No here ;-{

The problem here is Apple glued the battery into the case and the battery covers the trackpad (I know who would do such a dumb thing!) Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: Battery and Trackpad. Disassembling MacBook Pro 15" Retina 2012-2015

Taking the battery out will damage it and its just not wise to try to reuse the battery. So you'll need a new battery in addition of the trackpad $50 US {Apple P/N 821-1610} (aprox. $180 US for both). The other option here is to replace the uppercase which is the easier to do, but much more expensive: MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012/Early 2013) Upper Case Assembly.
