My phone just stopped working while plug into usb port in my 2016 KIA while listening to Pandora through my Uber app When touch the phone it was hot to the touch. it shut down and has not turned on since. The tech guy at my service provder tried to charge and then ordered me a new iPhone. During previous weeks and /or 4months the phone has been running hot but I could turn it on and off after the over heating.

Its a problem with the charging circuit of the phone. There are a few different parts to it but one part regulates how much current the phone draws. If that isn't functioning properly, your phone will overheat and eventually shut down.
A warranty swap is definitely in order. Also, make sure you are using authentic or certified Lightning cables. You don't want to risk frying your $700 iPhone because you bought a $3 cable.
