Messenger app is not working and little ID icon

Last night my messenger app stopped working. I can't see any previous texts or any texts that I send or have recieved even though it let's me know it's been received. There is also a icon on my notifications bar that looks like an ID badge could that be connected to my messenger? How do I fix this please this is mostly a business phone I can't have it messing up on me. Help!!
