Why does my pc takes long to start and to open files?

MY Sony Vaio i3 is 5yrs old( VPCEB15FG). Always ran Autocad Civil, with windows 7, 4 GB ram.

About 6mths ago, windows 10 automatically downloaded inspite of many previous pop ups which i ignored.

It has since become drastically slow, taking forever to start up, open files, shut down....etc.

A computer technican recommended i increase ram to 6Gigs.

It comes with 2 ports and 2Gigs each. This implies replacing one wih 4Gigs.

Would this work?

Is this an accurate diagnosis of my problem, in the first place?

Please advice.

Thanks

It depends, 4GB RAM is about the minimum I would run on a windows 10 machine, but 8GB would be better, but what i think is happening here is that your ram is being used 100% and the OS is referring extra RAM usage to the pagefile on disk which if you still have a hard drive (instead of a Solid State Drive) will slow it down to a crrraaawwwlll.

If the budget allows, get an SSD and RAM, if not then go with the SSD itll make vast improvements across the board, but youll notice a slowdown still when using RAM intensive applications.
