Limited mic vol & no charge/communication

I dropped my 8gig phone (while in a case)no cracks or screen damage, but my mic is low volume, and the connector will not sync w/computer/itunes, and USB charging does not work. When plugged into a firewire charger, it seems to recognize that it is not an approved charger, but the chage icon does not change to charge either. could this be the display assy or the comm board?

Is this a 3G or 2G iPhone? If it is a 3G, you may be able to fix it by simply replacing the dock connector assembly. It's a pretty easy repair, though I don't think iFixit has any guides available- but the teardown should provide a pretty good guide to follow.

Not that this is relevant to the question, but we do have the guides.

Unfortunately, it is a 2G phone (1st Generation). Could anything have just come loose? I have the unit disassembled at the moment, but have not taken the dock assembly area out of the case. I did find that the connector/cable going to the logic board was not straight, and I straightened it. but it did not seem to make a difference. Any ideas? Thanks

The first thing, that appears to me is this black locking bar for dock assembly's ribbon cable on the down side of the motherboard. Maybe you should disconnect and then again connect this ribbon cable to the logic board if you haven't done this already (maybe that's what you meant by straightening it).
