S-pen dock sensor issues

Since my warranty expired, my s-pen will be completly docked and pressed in firmly. Yet it shows the icon for it being detached and constantly makes the noise associated with removing the s-pen. Very annoying. If s-pen is removed of course, no issues. Samsung wants $350 to send it in to fix. Any ideas how to fix on my own? I already ordered a new s-pen, same problem. Tried stock, root, multiple roms, same problem..
