Why is oil leaking from the bottom of my mower

there is oil leaking from the bottom of my mower. from what I have read it is the crankshaft seal that is leaking. If so do I have to remove the engine to replace it

@stanleywalker we need a make and model for your riding mower. It will also help if you can tell us what engine it has. Can you identify what area the oil leaks from?

skiteam looks like you will have to remove the engine to get to the bottom crankcase oil seal. You will have to remove the bottom crankcase cover (116) to get the seal(118) removed.

don't know what model you are talking about but on briggs and stratton 17.5 hp the seal can be changed from the outside without removing the crankcase cover

I thought so too, that is only place leaking on mine as well after complete rebuild
