it may be the connection is loose (no. 1 or 2) - more likely if you have dropped the phone. follow this guide.

iPhone 3G Display Replacement

if that doesn't resolve problem then replace LCD (same guide) parts are available here or from other sources. just make sure it's for the the right model (3gs not 3g)
