Samsung updates killed my cell.

Samsung keep notifying me of updates being available so I pressed ok and now my cell is not working at all. Just looks like an asterisk on the screen. I tried taking the battery out and pressing the on button and up and down volume and pressing the on and home key for 15 seconds still nothing.
