Black screen after fall

Hi, I dropped my phone and the screen completely cracked and went black. I could hear that messages where coming but could not unlock the phone.

I have replaced the digitizer since then in the hope that this may fix the problem but with no results. I can turn the phone on but nothing else.

I have tried the soft reset but it doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas of what may be wrong? I am trying not to go for the hard reset as all I really want from the phone are my kids pictures.

When you mean digitizer is this just the glass + touch screen part or is it also the LCD display as well?

As it sounds like the LCD has gone bad / cracked after the drop which will also need to be replaced instead of just the digitizer.

Hi Ben,

yes I mean just the glass as I was hoping that this was the problem. As you pointed out, it most likely is the LCD that was broken. Is it easy to replace? I think I might as well buy a new phone, but don't want to loose my kids photos.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Ben for your reply. I have replaced the LCD and the phone turns on and is almost back to normal except for the bottom 3 button which won't work. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

When replacing the LCD / Digitizer, did you pry out the charging port daughter board or did you leave it in there?

Because I think that connects (via multiple golden connection prongs) with the 3 touch sensitive buttons on the front display housing frame.

Edit scratch that. You probably need to add kapton tape to this part here or increase distance between the digitizer and LCD using the method described here:

This is a pretty common issue across Nokia Lumia Digitizer repairs. You can see lots of posts on the internet where people complain that the digitizer / touch capacitive buttons don't work properly and this is usually why.

Double sided black or transparent tape works well in this case to increase gap.
