Why won't my headphones charge?

I just bought my new Beats as shown above. So I took them out of the box and plugged them in and when I came home a hour or two later they still weren't turning on with only the audio cable in. I fiddled with them and they work when the charging cable and the audio cable are plugged in but not just the audio cable. I don't know what to do because I tried the reset thing for two minutes but that didn't work. Also when doing that what cables should I have plugged in the headphones. I would like some advice and help. Thx!
