Betty Ayers your 4.0 Ranger has hydraulic roller cam followers (lifters) and you do not adjust hydraulic lifters. If you have valve noise etc it is possible that you have some pitted or worn push rods. If you let us know what makes you think you have to adjust your valves, we could possibly help you further.

4.0 was bad for lifters going solid. The lifter stops taking oil it deflates and stays solid causing push-rods to ring. this is usually followed by a failure of the timing chain

@john76866 only you will know if the rocker arms will be bad. I prefer to replace both of those (rocker arms and lifters) since that way I do not have to tear it down again. Yes. it's an additional cost but it evens out since I don't have to tear it down again
