My PS4 Controller is dead

My PS4 controller has suddenly died on me. It wont charge and it wont turn on. I replaced the battery but it is still non responsive.

I previously used it with my Xiaomi batter back with a USB type C cable with micro usb extension. I think that caused the problem.

any solution. I basically want to know which part do i need to replace for it to work again

Answer this question I have this problem too

It died on me but every time I charge it it vibrates

This happened to me. I thought it was the battery and also the Micro usb in put slot problem. I bring it to the support center and they said that the battery is okay and the micro usb slot is okay. It's dead and it's can't be fixed. I used my Samsung Galaxy S7 charger to charge my Dualshock 4 and it happened the next day so Please you guys out there, don't ever us any phone charger that has the out up ( fast charge ) that is higher than what the Dual-shock 4 controller require. It cause the board to burn I think and it won't ever charge again. not even alive while connecting to the USB. It's simply dead and You'll have to get another controller for 60$.

by

Well i was able to fix mine by changing the USB connector board and ribbon. Its easily available for 2 dollars on aliexpress. Just make sure you order the right one as there are 3 variants with different ribbon connectors .

by

this has happened to two of my controllers that will be $200, my other controller is dying for other reasons I was bored so one day i took my controller apart the white cord inside was all f up so I got some more but for some reason, it doesn't connect even though its the same pin cord. sony wants me to pay $200 instead of $14 (it was $14 for the wires.)

I got the controller to work but if i unplug it dies and when its plugged in there's a question mark over the battery

what do i dooooooo

by

You may have damaged the battery connections or the it just stop charging either try with better from your other controller and if it works order a new one , there are oem batteries with double capacity that you can get

My controller would not charge or connect, tried resetting, tried turning off ps4 for 3 minutes and then pressing ps and share button, tried another USB socket, tried another lead. Nothing. Ordered and replaced charging port and ribbon cable, nothing. Ordered and changed battery, nothing. I didn't want to order a new motherboard as is as much as a third party controller that works. In frustration dismantled whole controller, cleaned all contact points with alcohol, took opportunity to clean all dirt and grime from buttons etc. There is a small, rectangular contact point where the ribbon conductor film folds under the plastic holder and contacts the main board, cleaned both parts of the contact with alcohol. Finally in a desperate attempt I removed, cleaned and resoldered the 4 connections on the battery connection port on the main board. Assembled controller and it finally worked. Almost didn't believe it when it flashed blue. Would only recommend the soldering to someone with a fine point soldering iron tip and confidence to solder small components but it is well worth cleaning all the contacts with alcohol in case this helps and only required one additional screw to be removed. Hope this helps someone

I would double check the battery connection, if that's ok, I would then replace the motherboard. iFixit sells them, I have included the link to the part...

If the motherboard cost $38 then why not just buy a new controller

your USB port is most likely your problem. you can replace the entire board but the USB port can be fixed with some soldering experience.

I have exactly the same problem... because my battery was "dead" I decided to put it in charge with my Xiaomi power bank and suddenly my DS4 won't charge anymore !

I disasemble it and I hope it is just just the charging port/board but maybe you(or someone who knows) can confirm me ?

Thanks a lot ;)

Try to install a ps4 controller driver on your pc and attach the controller via usb. And then in the device settings check if the other buttons are working. What happened to me before is that the ‘ middle PS button’ was busted so it wont turn on and I thought it was dead. And it appears to be not charging because the battery was already full.

If that’s the case, just replace the ribbon inside (it’s pretty cheap and easy to do).

If the DS4 no longer responds with the PS4 then more than likely it's broadcasting a normal Bluetooth signal. To remedy this, I suggest cracking the controller open and replacing the USB board/ribbon cable. And to answer another persons question as to why you'd just buy the motherboard, the motherboard at $38 is actually cheaper than a new controller, which costs about $65-70 each.

Hello, I think im related to the problem, as most of Us here i was charging my controller with my phone charger, (closer than console) and suddenly it turned off and never came back up again, luckily i had another two dualshock 4, one with analog drift and one with R3 not responding.. after few beers ive came to conclusion that ive seen enough TronicsFix to have basic skill/ enough experience and out of 3 of those dead boys i have made a working one…. But i had to rip off both of motors for vibration and ive realised after few days that battery dies instantly, and it really dont hold charge… im using my green camo monstrosities i dont have any other options, but if someone have solution to bad battery im happy to check it out. Thanks.!

Hi guys, I found these 5 tricks to know what's wrong with your dead controller. If none of these work, it's probably a problem with your motherboard.

I had a issue with my controller where it would lose connection and appear to power off when I signed into my account. It would function on the blue screen before the sign in. What I did to fix it was to power off the PS4 and then I held the power button until I could hear to beeps. I plugged the controller in and selected “Reset Default Settings”. This walked me through the process of setting up my controller, network and time again. No data was lost. After that my controller functioned correctly.

I have the solution. My controller wouldn’t take a charge. I think the micro usb connector must be damaged. So I had a cheap third party key pad for the controller that plugs thru the bottom of controller and has a micro usb plug. I charged it and it works again!

It’s probably a fuse somewhere on the motherboard.
