First three green lights keep flashing...can't start or cancel.

Three of my dishwasher lights (Whirlpool Silent Partner IV) have started flashing (adaptive wash, pots and pans, & normal) and at first I could cancel and they would quit. Now I can't even do that. I tried the normal/heated dry reset that someone else offered on a different problem, but that didn't work--probably because I can't get a button push in edgewise between the rapid flashing. Any ideas? (And could it be related to my husband pulling the unit out 3 or 4 weeks ago to spray behind it? It's worked for a month since then...)

Cause 1

Heating Element

The heating element heats up the water to operating temperature. If the water doesn’t reach the proper temperature after a set amount of time, a light on the control panel might start flashing. To determine if the heating element has burned out, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the heating element does not have continuity, replace it.

The heating element assembly heats up the water to operating temperature. If the water doesn’t reach the correct temperature after a set amount of time, a light on the control panel might start flashing. To determine if the heating element assembly has burned out, use a multimeter to test the heating element for continuity.

Cause 3

Check Fault Codes

If the dishwasher lights are flashing or blinking, and there is an error code in the display window, consult the wiring diagram, tech sheet, and dishwasher manual to find out more information about the error.

dschuey, first I'd try to reset the DW. Unplug it and leave it unplugged for ~10minutes. Then plug it back in and press the following buttons within 5 seconds

Hi Temp Wash==>> Heated Dry==>> Hi Temp Wash==>>Heated Dry

This should reset your control and allow a cycle to be started.

See if the factory supplied service manual is still in the toe kick or in the control panel area. Use it to determine the diagnostic code given by the flashing lights.

Check and make sure the door switches are good. If so, make sure the ribbon cable from the control panel to the control board is clean and dry. Make sure all wires are tight and clean.

The most common reason of the constant blinking is that the Optical Water indicator (turbidity sensor) is either sensing the unclean water or the thermistor is out of value. Make sure that the water is at least 120°. These blinking lights can be because your unit is too dirty and the sensor is having a hard time which could have been caused by moving it and distrubing some kind of debris. Use a shop vac or similar to clean your dishwasher flush out the wash arms and parts under the sink. If you can let us know the exact model, we might find some more detailed information.
