stopped spinning and has loud screech noise
Kenmore 110.91551210 loud thumping, then stopped spinning and has loud screech noise - still agitates and drains - took all apart, replaced the motor coupling (rubber piece was really beat up), replaced cam brake (small piece was broken off it), replaced clutch band - after putting it all back together, it barely tries to spin and still has loud screeching noise. One person suggested the pump drain is clogged - I hate dealing with those hoses but I guess maybe? Another said it's the bearings and not to bother trying to repair as too difficult and costly. We've had this washer since about 1994 and it's been great till now. Also, a couple of years ago I replaced the lid switch, so I doubt it's that since last time there wasn't the loud thumping or the screeching.
Is this a good question?
Have you pulled the agitator to make sure it is not binding? Can you move the drum without any issues? If all that is okay you may be looking at transmission issues.

So today I have taken it all apart again. Drum does not want to turn. It did at first, but when I tried it again, it got really "stiff" and didn't want to turn either direction. Re-checked the motor coupling and cam brake and clutch that I replaced yesterday. Also took off the hoses and confirmed no blockage in pump or hoses. Looked between inner and outer tubs and no clothes or blockages there. However, I didn't think about it yesterday, but there was thick, gunky black stuff all over everything and I am assuming it's oil. Maybe a leak from somewhere? Because after putting cam back and before putting gearcase/clutch back on, I tried turning the cam lock counter-clockwise to release the brake and it won't budge AT ALL. So now wondering if it's "frozen" and if so, why? I really like this washer and dryer and don't like the new HE stuff, but if this goes much longer the hubby is going to want me to call it (looking at Speed Queen if we buy new).
