Controller on the Fritz

For the past couple of months one of my controllers decides on its own if it wants to work or not. Some days it doesn't want to sync up. Other days, the buttons won't respond. Sometimes it unsyncs mid-game. On a blue moon, it works fine. Last time I tried using it, the touch pad wouldn't respond and that was a first. Usually it's the triggers that sometimes won't respond.

The only thing I've done to this controller was change the way it looks (i.e. bullet buttons, chrome buttons, colored analog sticks, etc). But that's all cosmetic, so it shouldn't affect it. My other controller has the exact same stuff done to it and it works fine. I've even popped it open to see if the buttons were making contact. It looks fine.

Is there anyway to fix this? Controllers are expensive, that's why I haven't gotten a replacement yet.
