Green/Purple Tint on Notebook Display
Hi Folks
Recently, the display of my Flex 2-15 started glitching around, out of nowhere. It started with some horizontal purple lines, than the display had a green/purple tint. I figured that before I actually open the device, I might as well just play a few hours of video, which actually fixed the error for a short time. Later, the screen started flashing again, but got back to it's normal stage after some time (15-30min).
So I opened the device. I checked the ribbon connectors connecting MB and display, but they seem okay (also cleaned the contacts). The actual cable doesn't seem to have any stress or simmilar and appears to be in okay shape. Also checked the connections on the (what I first thought was the backlight inverter) touchscreen controller. I couldn't find the backlight inverter, but it doesn't seem like a backlight inverter related issue.
I think it's either the graphics card, the panel itself (unlikely) or still the ribbon cable. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Is this a good question?
Hi, Just wondering if this happens when you have the charger connected and switched on. If it doesn't and it behaves normally (allow enough time to prove it) perhaps your battery may be failing. Power fluctuations can cause funny things to happen.

Hi, thanks for your help.
I almost exclusively use the ac adapter, but a failing battery is indeed possible as I've always had terrible battery life with this machine.
Do you think I should try disconnecting the battery from the mobo (it's not exactly what you consider user replaceable)?

Hi, With the AC adapter connected, there should not be any power problems as there should be a constant voltage level and sufficient current to supply your tablet. I was thinking that if it only happened when on battery only then perhaps that may have been a reason.
Not sure that disconnecting the battery will help. It may be that if the battery is failing it may cause the power even though it is from the adapter to also vary therefore possibly giving you the problem.
I am not sure that if you disconnect the battery and try to run it on the adapter alone that it may even work. It might depend on whether the firmware allows this to happen. I do not know. You could try it and see and if it does work then see how the screen behaves. At the worst at least you will know one way or the other whether it may be the battery or not.

Plug in an external display, if it does it on that too you may have a very big problem but if it doesn't then there is something wrong with the displays...

I'm 100% positive that the issue isn't related to the graphic card(s), as switching from the onboard graphics to the dedicated graphics made absolutely no difference and an external screen would work perfectly fine.
