The GAS dryer wont turn on but lights up

I have a GAS Kenmore Elite dryer. When I hit the buttons for the different cycle, it lights up but when I hit start, it does nothing. All you here is the initial click. The light in the drum turns on too but it won't start. I just had a repair guy out here and he said because it's a gas dryer, it can't be the fuse in the back of the dryer. He looked at a number of things from the front panel on the bottom of the dryer and came to a conclusion it's the control panel. I'm questioning if this is correct because from what I read on your website, it could be a number of things. To buy a new control panel is over $260 (I can ask my husband to put it in or it will be another 200 for the repair guy to install it). It is a 11 year old dryer. I dont' want to spend that kind of money if really is the control panel. How can I be sure if it is the control panel?
