Problem transferring Thunderbird from XP to Windows 7

I have Thunderbird on my Windows XP machine & on my Macbook Air, all connected to my gmail IMAP account. Both work perfectly in sync. I have now upgraded another PC to Windows 7, installed Thunderbird, copied my profile across, but it won't bring in my emails from the gmail account. All the settings copied across OK and are the same as on my other two computers. Is there something obvious I haven't done, maybe?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I will be helping someone who has XP, and will be going to Win 7

I have just started Googling to see if one can backup everything in Thunderbird, and 'restore' it into their new Win 7

I came across this that is 2010 to 2012, but it may be of interest to you -

I will keep Googling to see if there is a better (or more recent) solution

Many thanks, Rob. However, I found that when I restarted my computer, all the mail started coming in, so problem solved. Not enough patience was the answer!!

Geof, When you copied your profile did everything (previous emails, Folders, Etc) come across ?

Can you give me a link to the Tutorial/Article/Instructions that you follwed

Hi Rob,

I didn't ever find a specific link (although there must be one), but I installed Thunderbird on the new Windows 7 machine, copied across my profile from my XP machine, (it was the default, so the same on both machines), but nothing came down from my gmail IMAP folders until I restarted Windows. Then everything came in fine and all my mailboxes were populated.

Hope this helps,

Geof.

Thanks Geoff,

The person I will be helping (move 4 PCs from XP to W7 or W10), has decided to start fresh, and just forward some of her emails to her private ISP, and later forward them to the new PC.

However the next thing i will dread is re-setting up the Server settings, etc.

If I had a bash at copying the Profile across, would that 'transfer' those settings, saving me from working them out ?

Moving the profile across will move all the settings across - very easy!
