Debug Muffled/Distorted Loud Speaker

This phone took an unfortunate swim, speaker down into a pint of melting ice cream. The phone was roughly submerged about an inch, but not for very long. After removing the phone and trying a few tricks to clean it up, we instantly noticed that the loud speaker was now muffled and not working.

I replaced the loud speaker yesterday with a new one purchased from the site, however that did not seem to correct the issue. Any other suggestions what the issue might be?
