Graphic Card Drivers Problem

Hello. I have a sony vaio VGN-FZ31E. I recently sent it to repair a problem with the graphics card, but.... 1. The audio was not working when connected via HDMI to TV (that I fixed). 2. When I downloaded the drivers for NVIDA GeForce 8400 GT GPU, the screen drivers ...disappeared. Now I cannot connect it to TV (it does not recognise the HDMI. What drivers I should install in the first place for this laptop ? Does anyone know? And if yes, where can I get them from? I have already downloaded the ones from sony support center, but they do not work.

Thank you for your help

Hi,

Have you tried the Nvidia website to get the drivers for your graphics adapter and OS version?

Here is a link to help you select the correct driver. (Select Geforce 8 series -the 8400 gt is not shown but perhaps one of the others, (8400, 8400se, 8400gs) may work.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.asp...

There is also this link if any of the above doesn't work.

http://www.driverscape.com/download/nvid...

Hopefully this is of some help.

Thanks you for your reply. I have tried the nvidia.com and actually after downloading those drivers I had the problem. I will try the other one as well now. Thanks again :)

No luck. After installing the nvidia drivers, I checked the control panel: Display, Resolution, Advanced Settings. Under "Adapter" it reads .... blank !! I am sure something was there, but what ?

Hi, Have you tried uninstalling the video drivers, restarting and letting Windows 'find' the new hardware? What was the problem with the video before you had it repaired? Was it working with the same OS as you are using now before you got it fixed?

Hi, sorry for the delayed and thank you for you answers. The problem was that the graphics card was not working and the screen was pink ! Now this is solved, but I cannot connect it to a TV. If I recall correctly it was working on Windows XP (now for some reason I do not know, they installed Windows 7). The thing is that for some reason the section Adapter (advanced settings - Screen) has no description and actually this happened immediately after I did exactly that, i.e. uninstalled the video drivers and let windows "find" the hardware. So the real question what the description should be in that section and what drivers do I miss ? Thank you again

Hi Alice,

Have you checked in BIOS to see if there is any information regarding the graphics adapter in there? Not sure how to get into BIOS on your laptop, usually it is by pressing F2 or Del when the manufacturer's 'splash' screen displays after you power up.

Have also gone back to the Nvidia website and have found the Win 7 driver for a Nvidia Geforce 8400M-GT which I believe your graphics adapter may be. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRes.... Be aware of the disclaimer regarding OEM (in your case Sony) adaptations to the driver If you have been to this particular driver already, apologies.
