Home button is not working

I have an iPhone 3g and the home button is not working, well I say not working, but I am finding that I have to really push hard on the button to make it work!!!

Please can any one tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks

There is no soldering needed on this part! Home button flex connects to top of dock flex not the motherboard.

If button is still responsive but needs more pressure try following guide to open iPhone, disconnect ribbons1,2,3. Turn display over and you should see the 2 gold prongs beneath home button- use a small flathead screw driver to gently lift them up. Clean top of dock to get rid of dust etc. Reassemble. Gold prongs get flattened with use, they should be pointing upwards approx 45• to make contact with dock

Try this first. Reposting from Ezekiel's solution that works!

Its a hardware issue that Apple overlooked. Try this work around to save money. Plug your iPhone USB cable into the phone (No need to plug the other end to anything) and grip the part right where it is plugged into the phone. Slightly bend it up towards the screen, just a little (You might even hear a click) and presto! This is guaranteed to work most of the time. If it doesn't, you need a new Home Button then.

Just dont blame anyone if you break something because this work around relies on your own strength..Ü

Probably just needs a replacement home button flex, these can be found on ebay. Although if your unlucky the contact on the logic board may have come off, these are replaceable too but the soldering can be a tad fiddly.
