Tracks on logic board missing after removing the U2 chip

Hi everybody

I wanted to replace U2 chip on iPhone 5C because of battery not charging even if the charger show that is charging. (I replace the battery and the charging connector with known good).

When I remove the U2 chip I saw that some of the tracks are missing. I wonder if I put back the U2 is it going to work.

Before I start the repair I had broken board and I practice removing the chip on the broken board and the removal was successful no missing tracks at all.

You mean the solder pad is missing? Have any picture of it?

Try to install a charged battery to make sure that it turns on before you do any other repairs on it .

Yes Patrick the solder pads where you have to connect the chip some of them are gone. I don't have the photo anymore and the phone is now gone. I just ask the question for me to know. Thanks

If I remember correctly U2 on 5C does not have any NCs. Meaning all the pads lead somewhere and need to be present for this chip to function properly. You can double check the schematics to confirm.

In such a case you need to rebuild the pads then reinstall that U2. This requires micro soldering skills and proper tools.

If you have those, good luck. Rebuilding such small pads is a challenge.

If you don't have the needed skill set or tools, check my profile for a link to a web page that comprises a list of expert micro soldering techs that take up such a repair.

However, replacing that U2 may not solve your issue. Are you sure the phone was not charging? Did it start from a charged battery? May be it was plain dead (PMIC or other issue). How/when/why did this issue arise? Etc.

In other words, you may be spending time and money on the wrong solution which unfortunately is necessary to troubleshoot further.
