iPod died and not turning on at all?

My iPod died yesterday so I plugged it in and for an hour it still had the charging symbol so I left it then about half an hour later I checked on it and there was nothing, I held the home button and the power button and nothing happened, iTunes cant recognize it. I'm unable to bring it to get fixed because theres no place where I live that can fix it. It was plugged in all night and the screen is just black.

Options

Check the charger port hole for any dirt blocking the way for the charging plug to go in. If there is, use a toothpick to clean it out.
