Why is my built in speaker not working
One day I was using my ipod touch and it said head phone when there were no headphones in the thing Its turning 3 this coming year

take a look in the headphone jack socket and see if there is any dust or dirt-after 3 years there probably is! this may be tricking the ipod into thinking the jack is in. remove with toothpick/tweezers or similar.
otherwise you may look at replacing headphone socket.
