3G unable to find wifi networks

my 3G is unable to find wifi networks. Recently "updated" to 4.0.1 then 4.0.2. Immediately began having occasional loss of connection or need to re-enter wifi password. Now unable to find any wifi networks (known to be up/working) for more than a week.

Tried restoring as new and from backup, reset network settings, deselect spotlight search, reset, etc. multiple times.

I do have a wifi address listed on the phone.

Phone is pairable via bluetooth and GPS works.

I know there has been no recent trauma to the phone.

Does this sound like hardware, or software bug?

Thanks!

take a look at some of the threads on apple support and ihackintosh and you'll find many others in same bother. iOS 4 update caused loss of wifi for many. the update was supposed to have fixed many problems but perhaps not.

you could try downgrading with reputable software back to 3.1.2
