Power Button fails to respond properly

The power button on my laptop is not working properly. I shut down my computer at night and in the morning when I try to power it on, I have to press the power button 5, 6 or 7 times holding the power button down anywhere from two to 10 seconds or more before the laptop powers on. This happens too after the computer is in sleep mode and I try to wake it up. What is the solution to fix this issue?
