Is there a temporary solution to a broken digitizer cable/ribbon?

I damaged my old iPhone 4's digitizer cable. I know that to fix it you have to replace the whole screen, but rather than fixing it, I just want to temporarily be able to interact with the phone to get some pictures off of it. Is there a way to use one of those digitizer testing cables to allow me to connect to the phone and pull the images off?

Options

Just find any cracked but working iPhone 4 or 4S screen to use. Like you say, you don't have to install the cracked screen just connect it.
