When changing batteries the camera loses all settings.

Nikon Coolpix 8800 VR The manual "suggests" that it will retain information without a battery in place. Guessing that the capacitor or whatever retained enough charge to "remember" settings has died. Anyone have any idea what I might need to replace?

whitewolf, there really is difficult to suggest a specific part. I would disassemble the camera and take a good look at the circuit board. You will need a multimeter to check the caps. It is possible that you have issues with the backup regulator. Check that particular circuit.

Thanks, where did you find the diagram, Nikon would not give it to me? If it is the regulator, any idea where one could get another chip?
