5C Not Charging using genuine charging cable and mains

Block Image

Hi Evr1

I repair Phones on my time off from my day job. My question is , My friend gave me his Daughters Iphone 5C to fix. It was completely dead when I got it and would not accept a charge from genuine apple cable etc. I opened it up and replaced the charging port with no success, then the Battery. It now switched on with new battery and charged up however I kept getting the ' This Cable or Accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this Iphone ' sometimes it will charge and sometimes not, I took a look at the inside again and saw that a tiny component was sitting oddly near the lightning port flex connector, See picture above ( apologies for poor image, taken on old Xperia :) . It has now completely come off the board and I guess this is what's causing my problems. Also the phone is not recognised when plugged into PC using a genuine cable. Are these 2 defects connected and can someone have a stab at guessing what the component is used for that's missing. Many thanks in advance for any help.

I would guess it's because you're using poor quality parts. I can tell that's definitely an aftermarket battery, guessing the same with the lightning dock (charging port). You'll likely have better results with better parts

Thankyou IMedic, you might have a point although I get my parts from trusted supplier who supplies all the parts in our small country :) N.Ireland . The charging port assembly was from an old iphone and was tested already so wont be that. I still think that its pry damage near the connector mentioned in first post. Not caused by myself but another shop near by I suspect! Thanks

I can't see that great into the image. If there's damage to the logic board, or components, it could lead to the problem

yep, if you look closely you can see the arrows showing the uniform row with a couple of blotchs where its missing one of the small ic's. Thanks

Then I would search out the u2ic

Yep, was thinking about that one, that's the power management one if Im not mistaken ?

Al Kane, I somehow do agree with iMedic, but the symptoms are odd for a failed U2. The components that you are missing from left to right on your image are C215 which is a 1.0UF 6.3V 20% capacitor in a 0201 package. It is part of your primary mic circuit. The other one is C176 which is a 56PF 6.3V 5% capacitor in a 01005 package and it is part of the menu button circuitry. Neither one of those should cause your symptoms. They do however come of the dockflex connector which in turn can give you your symptoms. I'd continue to look for more missing/broken components. If you can try and get some more images in a "slightly better" quality
