Battery Status shows "Not Charging", Power Supply is OK

My PowerBook G4 Aluminum 1.67 Ghz stopped charging the battery as stated in title. Checked OEM power supply and it has full voltage and amp supply. Apple Help says that when "Not Charging" appears, power supply is too weak e.g. aircraft power supply being used.

Computer starts up and operates fine just on power supply.

What other problems can cause this? Battery was holding charge before this happened.

Thanks in advance for your help!

John

This is a common problem with PS4's. There are several things that you can try in order to get it working. If either of these work they probably won't work for a long period of time but they might.

1) You can try turning it up on it's side. This usually won't work, but it does sometimes...it's worth a try.

2) Another thing to try is hitting it against your knee or the floor. Not hard enough to break anything (obviously!) but enough to give it a bit of a jar. This method probably works more than the first method, but is not a sure thing either.

These are the first things to try. If neither of them work then you'll probably have to take it to a repair shop or send it in to one.

I hope this helps. Good luck. You broke bum (;

Fagglop jr, thanks for your suggestion. I tried that without any success, but then got an answer from the Apple Community group that solved the problem. I'll add that here so anyone seeing the same problem will have at least one proven way to check it out.

The answer from the other group was that it was likely the battery I had in the computer had reached the end of its cycle life, and would not recharge. Before posting my question here I had put in a second older battery and the same thing happened again so I thought there was likely some kind of hardware problem.

After receiving the message pointing to "old" batteries, I took one from another machine that I knew was good and when it was installed the "Not Charging" message went away. That battery charged normally and is in the machine as I am typing this. Now need to buy a couple of new ones.

Hope this will help!
