Washer won't start, lid stays locked

I loaded the washer and pressed start. The lights are lit like it should be okay, but it won't start. When I try to cancel it in order to restart, the lid is still locked. I am unable to open the washer and the washer won't start. What to do?

We just bought the Bravos XL steam yesterday, we used it 5 times, in the middle of a cycle, it stoped, turned itself off, and won't open the lid. The power outlet is working fine (dryer works)

The %#*@ machine is holding my clothes hostage and won't open.

I have the Maytag Bravos XL MODEL MVWB965HC and it is doing the same thing I have no clue what is causing this. It stops the wash and locks up every single time.
