Upgraded HD to SSD. Now can't install OS on drive

Having the same problem with the difference that nothing happens upon pressing the Options key (just the cursor shows on white screen). When I plugin an external hard drive with prepared OS on it I am able to get to the installation screen to where I can choose the installation location but the new hard drive doesn't show up in the list (only the external one and its partitions). Good chance that the SSD is broken or not functional?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Please correct the system information to what your system is. If you don't know give us your full serial number so we can look it up

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the reply, I just updated the Information. It's a 13" 2010 Macbook Pro. I switched back to the old HD and boot, reinstall, etc. work fine (beside the slow performance as the system diagnosed an HD error for the old HD).

You speak about having a slow drive, often when I hear that the SATA cable has degraded. I would start off replacing it.

Make sure you are using the newer version of the cable. For now leave your HD installed. Is the system faster?

Do you have a SATA to USB adapter or a FireWire HD case to slide the SSD into? Once you have it installed run Disk Utility from your internal HD are you able to see the SSD? If you can prep it and install the OS onto it. Reboot the system with the SSD still connected externally if it boots up cleanly swap out the drives.

Dan is referencing a 2012 HD/IR cable. Make sure it is new and the made for the same size machine as the connectors are different on the 13" and 15" models.
