I can't get the flash to work!!!

by

You need to use something thing to go around the edges while pushing the button. I used my daughter's bookmarker and it worked. After few tips of opening and closing it, it worked normal after that

The P55 button does not work -- flash will not pop up,

Interesting I am having the exact same problem with my FZ1000, pushing the manual tab did nothing to pop open the flash. It used to work, but quit working several weeks ago. Called the Panasonic support and was told to submit a online repair request. the camera is exactly one month past the 1-year warranty. Sucks big time!! Unless someone came up with a simple fix (or configuration change), I will have to ship it Panasonic repair facility in TX for estimate..

I did everything accordingly to the first answer comment and my flash is still refusing to cooperate. Anyone knows anything else or additional fixes I could try? I am getting really !#^&@@ at this..

Chosen Solution

There are three common fixes to a non-working flash. First, make sure your camera is not in Silent Mode. Next, make sure your shutter is set to either auto or MSHTR. If you find that neither of those settings were activated, your solution might be as simple as opening the flash. Open the flash by pressing the P55 button, which is the small, spring activated push-lever located on the left side of the viewfinder.

You saved my life.. I thought it was defective!

I have turned the camera off Silent Mode and set the shutter to both auto and MSHTR. In both cases the FLASH menu option is still grayed out and the flash does not work. Any thoughts?

by

If the shutter is not set to auto or MSHTR ten the flash will be greyed out!

So select shutter and press right arrownext to set button to select the correct auto ot MSHTR. Flash word will light up and you can select flash mode.

by

On ZS-70, i followed all instructions but could not get flash to turn on. Finally, I reset the camera to manufacturer’s settings, and flash is fine!

by

Awesome. I had turned on Silent mode! I would think that it turns off Flash too!

Jesse, after I added comment about how suck it is having to send in the camera for repair the stupid flash not popping up, I inserted a thin blade into the flash opening (do not force, just kind of helping it open) and push the "P55" button the same and wolla! the flash popped open.. I think in my case, there might be some sticky stuff in the opening which prevented the flash from opening. I wiped around the opening with a damp tissue and tried a couple times, flash oped every time. Try it and see if it works for you.

On the question about dark photos: I found I had accidentally set the exposure compensation to 2 f stops lower—so I was getting dark, faded pix. (On the LUMIX DMC zs60 this is the top press point on the wheel—a box with split black and white halves.). It should normally be set to zero.

I found on my fz300 if I have HDR mode turned on there is no flash function. So I turn off HDR when I need to use flash now.

FZ300 reset to factory setting and turned setting dial off of “iA” mode enabled the Flash menu item for me.

One other setting that will cause the Flash button to grey out is HDR. It is on screen 4 of the recording menu. Try turning it off and it might allow you to adjust your flash settings.

in my case i believe the preset i had that prevented the flash was the electronic shutter (actually, this and the seilent mode), so i turned it off and it worked. Luckyly enough the setup is on the same 4th recording menu as the HDR setting. Thanks for posting about this subject!
