scans and copies print in a yellow background

I have HP Envy 4500e all-in-one. When I copy or scan in color, the whole page prints in yellow. This does not happen when I order a print from computer in color. I have tried the reset by disconnecting power cord from both ends. I have tried the scan/copy doctor. I have watched when it is copying and the bulb itself gives off a yellow light. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,

If the colouring being produced only occurs when making a copy/scan via the platen glass and not when printing from the PC, the issue is commonly due to dust/grime on the scanning glass area. Dust/grime on the platen glass can cause "colouring' as every inch of the paper is picked up by the scanner.

You will need to carefully and fully clean the glass in the scanning area. There can also be a strip of transparent plastic on which there can be dust/grime. You can use a soft lint free cloth either dry, or just very lightly moistened to clean the glass. and you may have to scrub (gently) to remove it.

You may also wish to clean the underside of the lid.

NOTE: do not spray a cleaning solution onto the glass.

After cleaning the platen glass, run four to five blank/clean pages through to test it and see if it still appears yellow.

Thanks for your response. There is no dust or grime. The yellow is a very bright dark consistent yellow. The color of the bulb is also yellow as it scans across the screen when copying. I have lifted the lid to see it. These things only happen when copying or scanning in color mode. Copying or scanning in b&w mode, the prints comes out very clear and perfect. Please advise.

Thanks!

My coworker and I have separate computers connected to the same HP printer. When she opened a PDF document on her computer from our shared external hard drive, it appeared to have a yellow background and would print with a yellow background. When I opened the exact same file on my computer it appeared with a white background and printed normally. This happened mainly with PDFs that I had created and saved from Photoshop.

I discovered what the problem was!

She double-clicked PDFs to open the files, and they opened in Microsoft Edge, not Adobe Acrobat. So I went to her computer and tried opening Acrobat first, then using File/Open to open the same PDF -> no yellow background! Microsoft Edge was the PROBLEM. I changed the PDF default on her computer to Adobe Acrobat and problem solved!

Go to Settings, Apps and Features, and Default Apps. Scroll down the list to find PDF. If Microsoft Edge is the default, double-click to choose Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.

I hope this solves your problem, because it’s such an easy fix.

Hi,

I'm sorry the only thing that I can think of is that the optical scanner or firmware which controls it is faulty. I cannot find a service manual for your printer to help resolve the problem. My only suggestion now is to check the warranty status of your printer and if still valid contact HP regarding a warranty repair/ replacement. Here is a link http://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarrant...

this is a problem of bad flat flex cable which is attached from the printer main board to the scanner .. you need to open up the printer and check it well

Nothing I did to solve the problem worked. My brand new HP Laser - Jet Pro MFP printed beautiful black and white documents but each time I attempted to print using color, the whole background on the sheet was yellow. I had three persons who work with laser printers try to solve the problem and nothing worked.

Replacement was the solution.
