My laptop refuses to boot beyond the dell logo.

My laptop refuses to boot beyond the dell logo. It beeps once and shows a white line. I have tried pressing the fn key and the power button but nothing happens. how can I solve this problem.

@ujay1 one beep at POST is a BIOS ROM checksum in progress or failure . The usual causes for that are a System board failure, covers BIOS corruption or ROM errors. Try to remove your battery, your power supply and your memory sticks. Then keep pushing the power button and hold for 15-30sec. Replace the power supply and one memory module, try to turn it on and see what it does. Also, you should try and see if you can still your BIOS and check for abnormalities. Set the boot device to optical drive and see if your computer will boot from a bootable disk. If it does boot it would be an indication that you are also have hard drive issues.

Can you access your BIOS at all? you tried to boot from a bootable CD or USB drive?

None of the above. I just tried putting on the laptop for the normal booting.
