When I try to replay my recordings I can barely hear my own voice because of the loud crackling. This malfunction started yesterday after I accidently dropped the DPM to the floor.

The most likely cause of your problem is that the speaker is blown and needs to be replaced. Another reason could be that one of the solder connections came loose or undone. You should check on that before purchasing a new speaker when there is only a little tin-solder needed. More possible causes for your problem may be listed on the Troubleshooting Page.
