Got really hot now won't boot

My macbook is a trooper and has had many problems before but managed to sort all of them. Until now.

It was running hot for ages, and turning off randomly which i could deal with but now won't boot at all.

It turns on, gets to the loading screen, then gets stuck and immediately gets really hot! Within 30 seconds it is proper hot.

Then it clicks and shuts off.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything i can do? Is it permanent heat damage?

Thanks,

Iain

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I didn't replace the thermal paste which may be part of the issue, by would that make it heat so rapidly?

I had opened it up years ago to clean it out and it was running fine for a long time, so I'm not sure why it had died now.

It's protecting itself and shutting down automatically. There's not enough information here to give you a good diagnostic. Let's start with a history of the machine. Repairs that have been made. Your exact machine, there are known issues!

Ok thanks for your reply.

Theorem number is a bit scratched off at this stage but pretty sure it is A1239

Firstly the logic board died and was replaced by apple for free as nvidia accepted they were at fault.

Replaced the hard drive.

Replaced the battery twice. Latest one is super cheap copy.

Got a new power adapter, real apple.

Replaced the keyboard.

I've taken it apart and no obvious issues or dust bunnies. Cleaned out the heat sink anyway but didn't help.

Also the hinge is broken with the casing opening up if you close the screen down.

Let me know if there is anything else I can add to it that would help diagnose.

Wrong number, remove the battery and get the full serial number and plug it in here: http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-loo... Hopefully Apple replaced the logic board with the revision 2 logic board. When you replaced the heat sink, did you reapply thermal paste and how long ago was that? It does sound pretty beat up and has had a rough but long life.

Ok thanks will do. Currently in Vietnam so it might be hard to get hold of but I'll try to source some.

Do you think that will stop it heating so rapidly and allow it to boot? Do you have any other ideas of what the problem might be otherwise?

Yeah it's GPU Again !
