Found plug on display end of cable. Plug on this end of cable terminates at a jack at the top of the display and is under some black film so one had to dig a bit to uncover it. This end of the data cable is in good shape. However, the problem is on the circuit board end. Looked at plug under magnification. It is toast. Discovered I can purchase a replacement data cable on EBay. Will report back when I receive cable and install it. Would recommend anyone removing display detach data cable at display end rather than circuit board end as shown on tutorial. The plug/jack assembly is muc more robust on this end.

Ordered replacement cable, A1311 iMac 21.5" Mid 2010 DisplayPort NEW 593-1280 A Display LCD Cable 922-9497 from an eBay store. Installed cable on board first which allows plenty of room to carefully slide cable plug end in to board jack. Then clicked cable plug into Display jack. Closed up computer and tested. All worked as it should.
