Why is my sound not working

Ok so this morning when I got up I got on YouTube and turn the volume all the way down and I held it down for like 20 seconds and then I went to go turn up to like the 4th block and then it wouldn't except for on voice memos and a call that's it and my phone has never been in water and when I go to turn it up the big volume square doesn't even pop up at all

The first thing to try is doing a hard reset. Hold the power button and home button until the screen goes black (it's powered off) and the apple logo comes back.

Otherwise, you could have debris/corrosion in the charging port or headphone jack that is causing the phone to divert the sound to those outlets.

Or, the speakers/volume buttons could actually have issues, but that is the most unlikely reason.
