XBOX 360S will not udate

XBOX 360S will not update....did reset and everything the Microsoft peeps told me to, including sending in unit for replacement. They then contacted me and said unit had been tampered with and refused to repair. I purchased this unit used for my girlfriend's son from an individual. (So my XBOX would be free when I want it lol) Should i buy a wireless adapter card and start there or could it be another issue....appreciate any help......

Did you buy this used? It may have been banned on x-box live from the previous user for modding it.
