Clean PC Memory Stick contacts?

Hi,

Inherited an older Dell PC. After checking it over powered on and the lights and beeps told me there was a memory problem.

Removed the 2 Memory Sticks and examined each one. Noticed there was some dirty contacts.

Googled and found "you can at least clean the contacts on the expansion cards and memory modules directly. Some people use a soft, clean rubber eraser for cleaning contacts, but we think the best tool for that purpose is a fresh dollar bill, which has just the right abrasiveness to clean the contacts without damaging them. Simply rub the dollar bill briskly against the contacts, as shown in Figure 3-16."

Also found "If there is visible foreign matter on the contacts, clean it off

with a solvent."

Most recommend isopropyl alcohol.

Appreciate comments from others that have solved this problem.

Thanks

I recommend isopropyl alcohol. I've used it on multiple dirty computer components with no negative effects. Not only does it not damage components due to its low water content, but it cleans very easily and is readily available at almost any drugstore.

I suggest 90%+ but 70% works fine in a pinch.

Edit: Use a Q-tip or fine cloth to apply it
