Is it possible to record the audio discussions

I need to record the audio discussions on my MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Laptop.

Should I buy any hardware and microphone I will be obliged if you can elaborate the procedures, is there any necessity to buy additional software?

As to the needed hardware you can use any microphone that plugs into the mic input.
