Do you have any other suggestions ? Does Apple have some kind of protection code which notifies them of tampering !

You should try restoring in DFU mode...

Step 1. Turn off your iPod Touch.

Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.

Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.

Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.

After it is in DFU mode, you can restore a backup or a fresh install of iOS.

Hope this helps!

I did this but cannot get the ipod to restore. I get this message > Unable to restore your ipod to original settings < Error code 1603

Does Apple have some kind of protection that is prohibiting me from altering the original configuration !
