Why do my keyboard and mouse run out of battery so fast?

The keyboard and mouse on my HP EliteOne 800 (unsure if it is a G1 or G2) seem to turn off after a very short period of being on. Replacing the batteries only makes them work for a little while. After a couple uses, they won't turn on at all. No lights will come on and they seem to malfunction sometimes when "low" on batteries.

Chosen Solution

Make sure to turn your mouse and keyboard OFF when not in use for extended periods of time. Also, try reducing the distance between your keyboard/mouse and the computer itself.
