Why is my click wheel not responding but iPod resetting?

Hello.

I have 3 iPod classics, a 120GB thin, a 160GB thin, and a 160GB thick...

I thought it was time to change the front and back panels on all of them due to wear and scratches, so i ordered the parts and proceeded with the replacement.

All went well with both the 160GB ones. However with the 120GB thin one, i decided to change its color from silver to grey, so i had to change the click wheel as well from white to black...

I finished replacing everything on it and wanted to give it a try before closing the panels together. It booted well as usual, but the click wheel woudn't respond to anything (neither clicking nor scrolling). Every other thing was working fine including the hold button.

I took it apart again to check the click wheel connection and everything was fine. I unplugged the click wheel brushed around the connection and connected it again making sure the black bar was flipped down to secure the connection. Rebooted the iPod and still no response from the click wheel.

This time i tried resetting the iPod by clicking both the menu button and the center button simultaneously. And to my amazement the iPod did reset. However the click wheel was still dead after the reboot. I tried resetting several times but to no avail.

How is it possible that the click wheel won't respond to anything (neither clicking nor scrolling) when on the menu screen but would reset when i press the menu and center buttons simultaneously?!?!

I even tried replacing the new click wheel with the old white one that was working perfectly fine before i started with the procedure but it was still dead as the new one and would also just reset the iPod...

I really can't understand what went wrong and how is it possible that a click wheel would only respond to the menu and center button when pressed simultaneously to reset the iPod but nothing else?!?!?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post but i was just trying to be as specific as possible to avoid the wrong answers...

Thank you in advance!
